Cape Town with Mom and Aunt

After we went to Kruger National Park, we took my mom and my aunt to Cape Town for a couple days. We were able to take a direct flight from Nelspruit airport to Cape Town.  The first night was actually my birthday!  Jamie had made us reservations at a restaurant in Camps Bay called The Bungalow which was right on the water and we had a perfect view of the sunset and the backside of Table Mountain.

The next morning we got up early to “hike” Table Mountain.  I wouldn’t call it a hike – more of a rock climb.  We did the shortest route and it was pretty hard, especially at the top.  **Tip:  You really need to be somewhat in shape to do Table Mountain.  I don’t want to discourage anyone, but you need strength in you legs and arms to help you climb the rocks, balance to help keep you on the mountain, and endurance as it will take you about 2.5-3 hours to get to the top on the short route.  I’ll be honest, I was thanking my trainer under my breath for all the leg and balance workouts he makes me do that I hate.

But we did it, all of us!  And the view from the top was INCREDIBLE!

I even got myself a t-shirt at the top in the gift shop!  Luckily and thankfully, there was a cable car at the top to ride down.  Going down that mountain has to be way harder and scarier than going up.  Wouldn’t recommend it.

stellenboschAfter the “hike”, we rushed back to the hotel where our wine tour driver was waiting on us!  We went on a half day wine tour to Stellenbosch – the “Napa” of South Africa, if you will.  The wine country here is breathtaking!  He took us to lunch at a winery then to 3 others where we got to taste nearly all the wine they had!  Thank goodness for the driver!  When we got back to the hotel we took little “booze naps” then went to this really lovely restaurant called Harborhouse on the marina called the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

There is always something to do in Cape Town.  I have said it before, but it really is one of the best cities in the world.  My brother and sister-in-law are now planning a trip here in February!  Jealous of the pics, Doug and Katie?? 🙂 Hoping to take them here, as well!
